5 Signs It's Time To See A Gynecologist

Posted on: 13 May 2021

It is a good idea to see a gynecologist once a year for a checkup. However, you may encounter a problem before your yearly checkup at some point. It is important to know when it is necessary to make an appointment with your gynecologist.

Here are several signs you need to see your gynecologist promptly.

You Have Very Painful Menstrual Cramps

Experiencing cramps during that time of the month is not abnormal. However, if your cramps are so painful that you can barely move, you should make an appointment with your gynecologist. You should not have to live with that kind of discomfort forever. Your gynecologist may prescribe birth control pills to reduce your cramps.

Sex Is Becoming Painful

If you have vaginal dryness or haven't used enough lubricant, sexual intercourse may be a little painful. However, if you experience extreme pain during sex for no apparent reason, it is time to see your gynecologist. An underlying health condition, like fibroids or endometriosis, could be making sex too painful.

You Feel a Burning Sensation When You Urinate

Does it always burn when you urinate? If so, you need to see your gynecologist as soon as possible. It is never pleasant to experience discomfort when you use the bathroom. There are a number of conditions that could be causing painful urinating, such as a sexually transmitted disease, urinary tract infection, or vaginitis.

You're Not Happy With Your Birth Control

There are many types of birth control options available these days. If you're not satisfied with your current method of birth control, you should see your gynecologist. For example, if your current birth control is giving you terrible mood swings, your gynecologist may have you switch to a different one.

You Think You Might Be Pregnant

If you have had unprotected sex and missed your last period, you should contact your gynecologist as soon as possible. They can give you a pregnancy test so that you know if you are expecting or not. If you are pregnant, your gynecologist can discuss all of your options with you, such as keeping the child, adoption, and abortion.

If you are displaying any of these signs, you should make an appointment to see your gynecologist right away. Your gynecologist will give you a proper exam and then determine the appropriate treatment. If you have any questions during your appointment, don't be afraid to voice them.
